tHE aRTIST: Leuca Meraki/Chay

As an artist I’ve come to realizations and conclusions that I’ve tried my best to comprehend. In a lot of ways I feel as though I’ve answered those questions, in others, I feel I’ve produced even more questions than anything. Ironic as it is. However, in terms of my creations, I’ve pushed boundaries that supersede the overall craft of image capture, digital design and videography. I cannot say I’m an expert in these fields, but I am passionate and even more curious than most.

I strive to learn, I strive to grow, and I’ve ultimately learned through experience. Every form of art, every means of expression, I’m intrigued with, and I only wish to expand upon that level of experience.

Going onto my seventh consecutive year into the photo industry, I’ve captured well over 21,000 photos and successfully worked over 50 shoots in numerous categories including; Senior Photos, Family Photos, Engagements, Weddings, Personal Headshots, Studio Sets and more! But my range isn’t capped at just image capture. I’ve slowly been progressing into Digital art, Video Slide Shows, Creative Writing, and most recently Music.

I create for simplistic reasons. Those reasons lie in the notion that I can create, freely and effortlessly. It’s also the ultimate reason I exist. I am nothing without art. Therefore, art is nothing without me. This form of expression gives me purpose and I allocate purpose to its meaning simultaneously. My art is meant to inspire, to include, and to embody the nature in which is unfolding, whether it be blissful, or full sorrow.

This is the burden of existence.

When it comes to music, I don’t like to say I’m an expert in anyway or fashion. I just know that when the sound takes over, my feelings take over. There’s not a whole ton of calculation, as there are in my other fields, but I can ultimately surmise it to a feeling. And how I feel as an individual is described in these contexts of frequency.

We live in a world of sadness that only experiences a modicum of release in the form of art. Primarily music. It’s a form of expression that doesn’t warrant explanation, and yet as humans we do. So why don’t we attribute it more to love, rather than hate?
